Nait:Chair
a Japandi Lounge chair
Made of 100% biodegradable material, the Nait:Chair is designed for a sustainable future with no ifs or buts. The main parts are made of FunderPlan, an 8mm board containing 99% wood and just 1% sustainable additives. Assembled with dovetail connections, the Nait:Chair is fully re-assemblable.
The Nait:Chair was exhibited at Grassimesse Leipzig and Klimawoche Berlin.
Inspired by Japanese lightness and a focus on craftsmanship, the design process aimed to maintain the material's key feature: sustainability. The use of sustainable materials only makes sense if they remain as such or can be easily separated from other materials at the end of the product's lifecycle. The chair is essentially made of three materials. The main components are made from the sustainable board material FunderPlan, the legs are made of solid ash wood. The woven seat, also made from FunderPlan, is glued in place with water-soluble bone glue. Fitting parts made of PHA close the milling slots necessary for the dovetail joints, ensuring a secure fit and preventing the connections from coming apart unintentionally.
Dovetail connections are CNC milled with Shaper Tools, fitting parts are 3D printed with PHA (Polyhydroxyalkanoate)
